Liverpool are having a horrible run. Last night’s loss to Crystal Palace was their sixth loss in seven games.
Arne Slot decided to make ten changes from the last defeat to Brentford. The Dutch manager wanted to give other players a chance, as it was a Carabao Cup game.
However, it was important for Arne Slot to ensure that Liverpool progress to the quarter-finals. They were up against a very good Crystal Palace side.
And, Jamie Redknapp rightly pointed out (via The Sun) on the team selection:
“He made ten changes from the weekend against Brentford. You can’t tell me he’s picked that team today and those subs, thinking, ‘That’ll get me a result against a really good Crystal Palace side.’”
The Reds will have an even tougher run of fixtures in their next three games. This weekend, they will face Aston Villa at Anfield.
Unai Emery’s side beat Manchester City last weekend. Also, the Villans are on the same points as the Reds.
After that game, Arne Slot will have perhaps the toughest fixture so far this season, as Liverpool host Real Madrid at home in the Champions League.
And, their last match before the November international break will be against Manchester City. So, Arne Slot will have a tough time turning things around before the international break.
Also, the speculations about his future are rising with each defeat. Slot had a spectacular debut season last year when he won the Premier League in his first year.
Now, the Dutch manager is on the list of probable managers who could get the sack from their respective club.
As far as the odds go, Vitor Pereira of Wolves and Nuno Espirito Santo of West Ham United are ahead of Arne Slot.
Liverpool are eyeing a sensational move for Arne Slot’s replacement, as the Reds already know the man they want in the job if they have to part ways with the Dutch manager.
