Real Madrid agreed a deal to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold even before Xabi Alonso took charge of the club.
When Madrid signed Trent, he was surely one of the best right-backs in Europe. However, since joining Madrid, his career has taken a hit.
He is no longer the first-choice starter he was at Liverpool. Moreover, he was constantly fighting for a place in the first eleven with Dani Carvajal.
However, after Carvajal’s injury, he could have a string of chances to cement his place in the first eleven.
But that did not happen simply because he also got injured. As a result, Alonso had to use Federico Valverde as the right-back, which made the Uruguayan turn on the manager.
Valverde didn’t want to play as the right-back. But Trent was also not happy because of the lack of game time he was getting at Madrid.
Moreover, it seemed his Real Madrid future was over. The former Liverpool right-back was getting linked to Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, according to El Nacional, things might change now for Trent Alexander-Arnold after Xabi Alonso decided to leave his role as the Real Madrid manager.
The report claims that if Alonso stayed as the manager, Trent might have left the club in the summer. The England international was among the players who didn’t bid goodbye to Alonso.
El Nacional even claimed that there was a rift between the two former Liverpool players. The Spaniard often questioned Trent’s work ethic.
Also, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance on the pitch was not satisfactory. Moreover, injuries did not help his Real Madrid career either.
With Alonso gone, he will not have a clean slate under Alvaro Arbeloa and will have a chance to restart his Real Madrid career.
Trent is still recovering from the muscle tear he suffered at the start of December. He could return at the start of February.
