Vinicius Jr shocked Real Madrid chiefs earlier this year when he asked for the biggest contract in the club’s history.
The Brazilian joined the Los Blancos in 2018 from Flamengo in a deal worth €46 million. And since then, he has won two Champions League titles and three La Liga titles.
Also, he was the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or in 2024. But Manchester City midfielder Rodri won it. Last season, he scored 21 goals and 15 assists.
This season, the 25-year-old has played 17 games, scoring 5 goals and assisting 4 times. Now, the Brazilian winger entered talks over a new deal as his current agreement runs until 2027.
Real Madrid offered him £17.5 million per year, which marked a rise from his £15.8 million annual salary after tax.
His camp rejected the offer and told the club they wanted £26 million per year instead. This figure matches the salary Cristiano Ronaldo earned in his final contract at the Bernabeu.
Negotiations stopped soon after. The situation grew more complicated when tension developed between Vinicius Jr and manager Xabi Alonso.
According to The Athletic, the winger will not sign anything while Alonso remains in charge. Vinicius Jr has featured regularly this season but rarely finishes full matches.
The problem erupted during El Clasico, when he reacted angrily to being substituted and told staff that he was tired of the situation.
He apologised to fans after the game but ignored any mention of Alonso. Real Madrid still value him highly.
Alonso even made him captain for a recent European away match. Saudi clubs remain interested, and Al-Ahli explored a £302 million move in the summer.
Real Madrid now face major decisions about their most explosive forward. Also, there will be interest from several European giants, including Premier League clubs.
