West Ham’s final tally of 39 points became the highest total recorded by a relegated side since 2011.

West Ham United’s relegation from the Premier League has now pushed the club towards another major change behind the scenes.

The Hammers suffered heartbreak on the final day despite beating Leeds United 3-0 at the London Stadium.

However, Tottenham’s narrow victory over Everton ultimately confirmed West Ham’s relegation after 14 consecutive seasons in the Premier League.

Now, attention has immediately shifted towards the future of manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese coach only arrived at West Ham earlier this season after the club decided to sack Graham Potter following a disastrous start to the campaign.

Nuno initially improved results after taking charge in September and briefly gave supporters hope that the club could survive.

However, West Ham’s inconsistency throughout the second half of the season eventually proved too damaging.

The Hammers finished the campaign with nine wins, nine draws and 15 defeats under Nuno in the Premier League.

Interestingly, West Ham’s final tally of 39 points became the highest total recorded by a relegated side since 2011.

Despite that, reports now suggest the club already decided to move in a different direction.

According to The Times, West Ham United have summoned Nuno for talks and expectations inside the club point towards his departure.

The manager reportedly signed a contract containing a clause allowing West Ham to sack him without compensation if relegation happened.

Meanwhile, several important players could leave during the summer, while uncertainty also surrounds the futures of stars like Jarrod Bowen.

For now, though, West Ham’s immediate focus appears centred on finalising Nuno Espirito Santo’s exit after a painful end to the club’s long Premier League stay.
