Xabi Alonso on verge of getting sacked

Things are not going the way Alonso and Madrid planned.

Xabi Alonso

Xabi Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti this summer at Real Madrid. The Los Blancos had a forgettable season last year.

They failed to win a single trophy, which is a rarity for the most successful club in Europe. Ancelotti left Madrid to take up the role of the Brazil national team manager.

So, Real Madrid brought in Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen. The Spaniard had a successful stint in Germany, where his team won the Bundesliga in 2024, ending Bayern Munich’s reign.

He also won the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup with the German side. The Madrid giants were expecting Alonso to replicate that success in Spain.

However, things are not going the way Alonso and Madrid planned. His first assignment was the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

In that tournament, the reigning European champions, PSG, humbled Real Madrid in the semi-final to win the game 4-0.

But the current La Liga season started wonderfully for the Spanish giants. They had a significant lead at the top of the table.

However, the string of bad results has dropped them to second place, and the current La Liga champions, Barcelona, are leading the table.

So, the Real Madrid board and fans are not happy with Alonso. Moreover, he is falling out with several players, such as Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, and Federico Valverde.

Also, the recent draw against Girona has made the Real Madrid board contemplate whether they would continue with Alonso or not.

Real Madrid will take on Athletic Club this Wednesday, and according to The Athletic, this game will decide the future of Xabi Alonso.
