The dust is yet to settle on Al-Hilal’s pursuit of a marquee striker, but the Saudi giants have already switched targets.
After failing to lure their top choice despite a lucrative proposal, the club’s attention has swiftly turned to the Premier League and to a player who once arrived in England with massive expectations.
There is a growing belief in Riyadh that the next big name could soon be headed to the Saudi Pro League.
Fuelled by financial muscle and a desire to compete globally, Al-Hilal are not just browsing the market; they are actively closing in.
According to Santi Aouna, the Saudi club have made first contact with the entourage of a high-profile forward in the past few hours.
Talks are still in early stages, and no official bid has been tabled yet. But there is a sense of optimism.
The player, while still under contract at one of Europe’s most historic clubs, has not closed the door on a move.
In fact, he is said to be open to the idea of joining the Middle Eastern project, especially after a mixed season in the Premier League.
This shift comes after Al-Hilal failed to convince Victor Osimhen to make the leap to Saudi Arabia, despite offering a massive package that rivalled anything in Europe.
With that door now closed, the club are moving quickly to secure an alternative who fits both their tactical and commercial ambitions. That player is Darwin Nunez.
The Uruguayan forward has shown flashes of brilliance since joining Liverpool, but inconsistency in front of goal and stiff competition have raised questions about his long-term role at Anfield.
For Al-Hilal, though, his physical presence, age, and global appeal make him a perfect fit.
Negotiations are still in the early phase, but if the Saudi club follow through with an official offer, Darwin Nunez could soon become the latest big name to join the growing football revolution in the Gulf.
