Arsenal have started the 2026/27 season with three consecutive Premier League victories as they begin their title defence.
Mikel Arteta’s side beat Coventry City 3–0 before securing a 1–0 victory away at Aston Villa. They then defeated Chelsea 2–1 at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners also made significant changes during the summer transfer window, strengthening several areas of Arteta’s squad.
Bruno Guimaraes joined from Newcastle United for £75M, while Arsenal signed Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa for £55M. Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis also arrived.
Meanwhile, Piero Hincapie completed a permanent move after previously spending time at Arsenal on loan.
Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus were among the attacking players to leave during a busy window.
Arsenal are now continuing to assess emerging talent across Europe despite the summer market having closed.
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta enquired about Atletico Madrid defender Jorge Dominguez during discussions with the Spanish club.
Those talks initially centred around Arsenal’s summer pursuit of Julian Alvarez, but Berta also asked about the 16-year-old defender.
Atletico quickly rejected Arsenal’s enquiry because they consider Dominguez an important part of their long-term plans.
The teenager made his Atletico Madrid B debut in April before joining Diego Simeone’s first-team squad during the summer.
Dominguez subsequently featured against Malaga in August, becoming Atletico’s youngest La Liga player at 16 years and 241 days. Several major European clubs are also monitoring his development.
Chelsea and Manchester City have been particularly impressed by Dominguez, while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping tabs on him.
Berta’s previous spell with Atletico provides Arsenal with detailed knowledge of the Spanish club and its academy structure.
However, Atletico currently have no desire to lose Dominguez despite increasing interest from Arsenal and other leading European clubs.
