It has been a busy week in the Italian capital for AS Roma.

Fans are hopeful that new manager Gian Piero Gasperini will be backed with a squad that can compete for the title.

The club have been linked with wingers Leon Bailey and Jadon Sancho.

Meanwhile, Manu Kone has been linked with a move to fellow Italian side Inter Milan.

However, there has been an update on that front.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma have decided to keep the midfielder.

He states that there are no conditions to continue the negotiations with Inter.

Safe to say, this is bigger than most signings that Roma could make.

In his debut season, Kone looked right at home, being a key figure under three managers.

Owing to his good form, he managed to earn his first eight caps for the France national team.

There is no doubt that Gasperini will see him as a key player too.

His man to man system requires several top athletes who are capable of covering plenty of ground.

Which is exactly what Kone brings to the table – and much more.

In particular, losing him to another side in Serie A would have been a big blow.

With Inter losing Simone Inzaghi, and their ageing squad, Roma will be thinking they could finish above their counterparts next season.

So to have lost a player to them would have been really hard to take.

Huge news for Gasperini and Roma.
