Aston Villa are continuing an extensive squad rebuild after major changes during the summer transfer window.
Unai Emery has already seen several important players leave Villa Park following an outstanding 2025-26 campaign.
Villa finished fourth in the Premier League and secured Champions League qualification after an impressive domestic season.
However, financial pressures have contributed to significant changes within Emery’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
Morgan Rogers completed a £117 million transfer to Chelsea, while Youri Tielemans joined Manchester United for £35 million.
Villa responded by signing Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £51 million and adding Joao Gomes from Wolves.
Matteo Ruggeri arrived after Lucas Digne joined Paris Saint-Germain, while Alejandro Garnacho moved from Chelsea on loan.
Emery now wants further attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes, with Ollie Watkins also attracting serious interest.
Al-Hilal have submitted four offers for Watkins, although Villa rejected their latest proposal worth just under £45 million.
Villa currently want to retain the England striker, but circumstances could change if they secure a suitable replacement.
According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa have emerged as the most realistic permanent destination for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea are prepared for an approach from Villa and currently value the Senegal international at around £65 million.
Atletico Madrid have also shown interest, but they favour a loan while Chelsea currently want a permanent transfer.
Villa have maintained their interest in Jackson throughout the summer as Emery considers additions to his attacking department.
The striker previously worked with Emery at Villarreal and is open to joining him again at Villa Park.
Chelsea have also kept Jackson away from Xabi Alonso’s main training group alongside several players facing uncertain futures.
Any agreement between Villa and Chelsea could carry additional complications following their other business this summer.
The clubs have already completed deals involving Rogers and Garnacho, meaning UEFA rules surrounding associated transfers could become relevant.
Villa are nevertheless viewed as favourites if Chelsea secure the permanent departure they want before the deadline.
Emery’s side begin their Premier League campaign away against Brighton on Sunday as their transfer activity continues.
