Atletico Madrid enter race with Aston Villa to sign Chelsea forward

Atletico have now intensified their interest after Chelsea rejected their initial loan proposal.

Atletico Madrid have remained active in the transfer market after reshaping Diego Simeone’s squad during another busy summer window.

They added Kang-In Lee, Morten Hjulmand, Robin Le Normand, Cristian Romero, Alejandro Grimaldo and David Hancko to the squad.

However, uncertainty surrounding Julian Alvarez has dominated the final days of their transfer business before the September 1 deadline.

Atletico have tried to keep Alvarez despite growing speculation surrounding his future and his desire to join Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have also endured a major squad overhaul following several significant departures during the summer transfer window.

Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea for £117 million, while Arsenal signed Ezri Konsa for more than £50 million.

Villa also lost Jhon Duran, Lucas Digne and Youri Tielemans, while Al Hilal continue pursuing Ollie Watkins.

Unai Emery has responded by strengthening several areas, including signing Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Zion Suzuki.

However, Villa could still need another attacking addition if Watkins completes his expected move to Saudi Arabia.

According to TEAMtalk, Atletico Madrid have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson before the deadline.

Atletico have already submitted a loan proposal for Jackson, but Chelsea rejected that approach because they want a permanent sale.

Chelsea value the 25-year-old at around £65 million and have made their transfer stance clear to interested clubs.

Jackson also prefers a permanent move after spending last season on loan at Bayern Munich.

Aston Villa have pushed hardest for a permanent agreement, although UEFA’s new 45-day rule has complicated their negotiations with Chelsea.

That regulation could affect how Villa recognise profit from the earlier sale of Morgan Rogers to the London club.

Nevertheless, Emery has spoken directly with Jackson after previously working with him at Villarreal.

Jackson remains keen on the possibility of reuniting with Emery, while Villa continue exploring ways to complete the transfer.
