Atletico Madrid are preparing for a crucial summer after uncertainty emerged over Julian Alvarez‘s future. The Argentine enjoyed another outstanding campaign.
Alvarez scored 49 goals in 106 appearances since joining from Manchester City, while also leading his country’s attack at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His performances have attracted huge interest across Europe after expressing his desire to complete a dream move to Barcelona.
The Catalan club have already submitted a bid worth more than €100 million, while Arsenal also remain interested in signing the Argentine forward.
Despite the growing speculation, Atletico’s stance has not changed. Club president Enrique Cerezo has insisted Alvarez is not for sale.
Also, CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has made it clear the club will not sanction any departure until a replacement is secured. That search has already begun.
According to L’Equipe, Atletico Madrid have made an enquiry for Marseille forward Mason Greenwood.
Diego Simeone has started looking at potential alternatives should Alvarez eventually leave the club. Greenwood enjoyed an outstanding campaign in France last season.
He scored 26 goals and registered 11 assists in 45 appearances as he established himself as Marseille’s leading attacking threat.
Marseille are demanding around £43 million for the 24-year-old as they look to raise funds after missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
The report adds that Atletico have not been discouraged by that valuation and could submit a formal offer.
Manchester United also retain a financial interest in any transfer after inserting a 40 per cent sell-on clause when Greenwood completed his permanent move to Marseille.

The Spanish club are reportedly set to meet with the player’s representatives, with Greenwood said to be keen on joining Diego Simeone’s side.
