Manchester United had a season to forget last year. They were poor defensively and couldn’t find the back of the net frequently either.
The Red Devils conceded 54 goals and scored just 44 in the entire 2024/25 Premier League campaign. As a result, they finished 15th in the table.
That is why Ruben Amorim is looking to make significant changes to his squad. He wants to bring a new goalkeeper and a striker.
But, the Portuguese manager knows that just a striker and a goalkeeper will not solve his defensive problems. United cannot concede more than 54 goals this season.
That is why he is also looking for a centre-back.
The Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone also has the same requirement. The Argentine always wants to strengthen his defence.
That is why he was eyeing a move for Christian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur. But Atletico Madrid are having a hard time getting that Romero deal over the line.
So, Simeone wants to explore other options as he cannot leave his defence weak. For that, he has set his eyes on a defender that Manchester United are targeting as well.
Yes, according to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are interesting in signing Goncalo Inacio from Sporting CP.
Manchester United also have the centre-back in their list of target. However, getting the deal over the line for the Red Devils will be difficult.
The simple reason for that is the lack of funds. The Red Devils will not feature in Europe next season. That can also be a huge drawback for the English side.
Also, Amorim is prioritising a striker over a defender. That is why Manchester United are exploring a move for RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko.
Thus, for now, if Inacio decides to leave Sporting, Atletico Madrid could be his next possible destination.
