Barcelona are not waiting for the summer to begin their work. However, the club know that careful planning now will shape their next campaign.
Sporting director Deco has already outlined two clear priorities. A new striker, along with a left-footed centre-back, remains high on the agenda.
They have already discussed some big names internally. Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni has attracted admiration from the Blaugrana.
Also, Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck fits the profile. Yet both deals look complicated due to financial constraints.
And, there is competition for both players that could make negotiations difficult for Barcelona, who have a tight budget.
As a result, the Catalan giants have started to scan the market for alternative opportunities. They are eyeing for free transfers to avoid financial problems.
According to Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA, Barcelona are now very attentive to the situation of a Premier League defender whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Marcos Senesi of AFC Bournemouth has become a target for the Catalan giants. The Argentine has not renewed his contract with the Premier League side yet.
The 28-year-old centre-back could leave Bournemouth as a free agent if both parties fail to reach an agreement. That scenario would open the door for multiple suitors.
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly shown the strongest interest so far. Meanwhile, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are also ready to present contract proposals.
Thus, Barcelona will also face competition for Sensi. However, the appeal of playing in the Camp Nou could work in their favour. So, Barcelona, for now, are monitoring developments closely.
Deco understands the market can move quickly. So, if an opportunity presents itself, Barcelona could act decisively. If not, they will turn towards other defensive targets.
For now, Marcos Senesi stands firmly on their radar as the summer window slowly approaches.
