Barcelona are secretly helping Real Madrid to seal their first summer signing. Both clubs have been trying to sign a defender.
The Catalan giants were looking to sign many free agents. Their financial status is not helping their wish to sign the players they want.
That is why they are already looking at the free agent market for next summer. This might help Real Madrid in the pursuit of one of their key targets.
Next summer, many top-class defenders will be available for free. With Dayot Upamecano signing a new deal with Bayern Munich, this will be a huge blow for both Spanish clubs.
However, they could still look to sign Ibrahima Konate, who is yet to sign a new deal with Liverpool. So, both Spanish clubs may face competition from Liverpool in their pursuit of signing a defender.
Now, all three clubs are planning for a major move in the summer to sign a defender. And the player they are all targeting is Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund.
The German centre-back’s contract with Dortmund is valid until 2027. As a result, they have to pay a transfer fee to sign the player.
That is why Barcelona are already looking at his alternatives. As for Liverpool, they might focus on a defender who has proven his capability in the Premier League.
So, the reigning Premier League champions may look at the likes of Micky van de Ven to replace someone like Ibrahima Konate.
Thus, it will leave Real Madrid as the only viable contender to sign Schlotterbeck. The Los Blancos admire the German defender a lot.
That is why they are looking to negotiate with Dortmund. Initially, they were looking for a fee of around €70 million.
But according to SPORT, Dortmund may now want €50 million for the defender. With Barcelona moving away from the deal, it will boost Real Madrid’s chances of signing him immensely.
