Barcelona had a wonderful campaign last season when they won the domestic treble.
They failed to win the Champions League as Hansi Flick’s men suffered a heartbreak at the hands of Inter Milan at San Siro in the semi-final.
That game made Hansi Flick aware that he needs to sign a defensive leader.
Barcelona have already signed Joan Garcia, who could be the starter between their sticks next season.
Also, they have signed Marcus Rashford to strengthen their attack, which already has Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski.
But, Hansi Flick is now desperate to sign a defender. The situation is the same for their arch-rivals, Real Madrid.
After losing to PSG in the Club World Cup semi-final, the Los Blancos are actively looking for a midfielder and defender.
Madrid are already eyeing a move for Rodri from Manchester City. However, that deal is more complicated.
Apart from that, they are targeting another player from the Premier League to bolster their defence.
Now, Mundo Deportivo has reported that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are eyeing a move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.
The French international is now in the last year of his contract, as it will expire in 2026.
Real Madrid signed Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent this summer from Liverpool.
The Reds fear that the Los Blancos are trying to repeat the same they did with Trent.
That is why they are looking to extend Konate’s contract, and the Frenchman is yet to respond to the proposal of Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have entered the race for Ibrahima Konate as well. The Blaugrana might offer a deal to Liverpool that they may not reject.
That is why, instead of waiting, Real Madrid must make a move quickly if they are serious about Konate. Otherwise, they might have to see him in a Barcelona jersey next season.
