Barcelona are exploring a move for Lautaro Martinez as Hansi Flick looks to add another centre-forward this summer.
The Catalan giants need another goalscorer after Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres left the club.
Barcelona have already strengthened their attack by signing Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Jesse Bisiwu this summer.
However, Flick still wants a prolific centre-forward before the transfer window closes.
Julian Alvarez remains the club’s leading target, but Barcelona have made little progress in their pursuit.
They are waiting for Alvarez to make a move that could help unlock negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
With time running out, sporting director Deco has started assessing alternative options in case that transfer fails.
Lautaro has emerged as one of those alternatives following another impressive campaign with Inter Milan.
According to Marca, Barcelona have already held talks with Lautaro’s representatives to determine his availability.
The Argentina international would reportedly be open to joining Barcelona if an opportunity emerges this summer.
However, Inter have made their position clear and currently have no intention of selling their captain.
The Italian giants have declared Lautaro non-transferable and refuse to consider the possibility of his departure.
Barcelona would therefore need to convince Inter to completely change their stance before a transfer could progress.
Lautaro remains a key figure at Inter and has a contract with the Serie A club until 2029.
He also impressed for Argentina during their run to the 2026 World Cup final this summer.
Barcelona continue to consider other alternatives while waiting for developments regarding Alvarez.
Villarreal forwards Georges Mikautadze and Ayoze Perez have also attracted interest from Flick.
However, Mikautadze would require a significant investment because his contract includes a €78 million release clause.
Barcelona must now decide whether to challenge Inter’s firm position on Lautaro or pursue another alternative.
Their next move could depend heavily on whether Alvarez takes action to advance a potential move from Atletico Madrid.
