Barcelona are looking to get back to the top of European football under Hansi Flick, and early signs suggest the German coach has a very specific vision in mind.
While fans expected a marquee signing to kick off the summer, the club’s first real push might go in a different direction altogether. one that could shake up the status of another major target.
The Catalan side, still navigating financial challenges, have started hunting for smart, low-cost additions.
Flick, keen to strengthen his bench without stretching the wage bill, has reportedly put forward the name of a player he trusts from past success.
According to Fichajes, this deal is not just about footballing ability; it is also about familiarity, leadership, and cost-efficiency.
The player in question is nearing the end of his current contract and could join Barça as a free agent.
Despite his age, he remains in top physical shape and brings with him years of Champions League and international experience.
Flick is said to admire the winger’s work ethic, tactical discipline, and ability to perform in key moments; qualities he witnessed firsthand during their time together in Germany.
This unexpected move has serious implications for Barcelona’s pursuit of Marcus Rashford.
While the English forward remains an admired figure among the Barça staff, the financial outlay required to bring him in would be significantly higher.
With resources limited, the club might now shift focus elsewhere if Flick’s preferred option is secured.
The experienced name now being targeted is Ivan Perisic, whose arrival would likely end Barça’s interest in signing a similarly styled attacker this summer.
At 36, Perisic may not be the blockbuster fans imagined but his fit within Flick’s vision could prove to be just as important.
And, after the arrival of Ivan Perisic, Barcelona may decide to end their Marcus Rashford transfer pursuit.
