Barcelona have completed another major attacking move after their long-running pursuit of Julian Alvarez failed to produce a summer transfer.
The Catalan club had identified the Atletico Madrid forward as a major target following Robert Lewandowski’s departure.
Barcelona submitted a €100 million offer and Alvarez wanted the move, but Atletico refused to negotiate with their La Liga rivals.
The Argentine subsequently decided to remain in Madrid for the first half of the season after Barcelona’s attempts reached an impasse.
Alvarez also rejected a late opportunity to join Arsenal, leaving Barcelona searching for another solution before the deadline.
That search has now resulted in an official signing from the Premier League.
FC Barcelona have confirmed the permanent signing of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus after reaching an agreement with the Gunners.
The Brazilian has signed a three-year contract which will keep him at Barcelona until June 30, 2029.
Barcelona’s supplied transfer context values the deal at €10 million as Hansi Flick adds another experienced forward to his squad.
Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in July 2022 and made 123 appearances for the north London club. He scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists during his time with Arsenal.
The striker suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2025 before returning to action in December.
He later contributed three goals in 14 appearances as Arsenal won the 2025/26 Premier League title.
Before moving to London, Jesus spent several seasons with Manchester City, recording 95 goals and 45 assists across 236 appearances.
Barcelona have therefore secured an experienced short-term attacking option after being unable to prise Alvarez away from Atletico Madrid.
Their interest in Alvarez may not be finished, however, with reports indicating Barcelona could revisit the Argentine’s situation in a future transfer window.
