Barcelona were unable to make big signings this summer due to their financial situation. However, the Cules are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
So, they have already started planning for the next year. Hansi Flick knows that signing only Joan Garcia from Espanyol and Marcus Rashford from Manchester United will not be enough.
However, the German needs to make things work this season as he will wait for 2026 to make the signings he wanted to have this summer.
This summer, Barcelona allowed Inigo Martinez to leave the club for free. The Spaniard joined Al-Nassr, and as a result, the Cules freed up €12 million of salary.
But the Blaugrana failed to replace Martinez. That is why Hansi Flick was not ready to let Andreas Christensen leave this summer.
Also, Ronald Araujo and Pau Cubarsi are the other two centre-backs for Barcelona. Meanwhile, players like Eric Garcia can fill in if needed.
Hansi Flick wanted to find a specialist centre-back to replace Inigo Martinez. The German coach already had a player in mind that he was targeting.
Barcelona’s Sporting Director, Deco, also approved the move. But due to financial constraints, the Catalan club was unable to make the move.
So, Deco has now approved the move and made the player his primary target for 2026.
According to El Nacional (via Fichajes), Barcelona have identified Alessandro Bastoni as the primary target for 2026.
The Catalan club know that they have to spend a huge amount to sign the Italian international. Inter Milan will be asking for a fee of around €80 million, and the Spanish club are ready to pay that.
Hansi Flick will be eager to sign the Euro winner next summer as he looks to have a better transfer window than the one he had this year.
