Rodri enjoyed an impressive season after returning from the serious knee injury that disrupted the previous campaign.
The Manchester City midfielder made 21 Premier League appearances and played a key role in the middle of the park. The Spain international then enjoyed an outstanding 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Rodri captained his country to World Cup glory and anchored a defence that conceded only one goal in eight matches.
He also completed 101 of his 105 passes in the final against Argentina and won the adidas Golden Ball. Those performances have intensified speculation surrounding his future.
Rodri has entered the final year of his Manchester City contract, while reports claim he has rejected renewal offers from the club.
Real Madrid have emerged as the favourites to sign the Spain international. Reports suggest Florentino Perez wants to complete a deal after Rodri agreed personal terms through 2030.
Manchester City, however, value the midfielder at around €70 million and do not intend to lower their demands.
According to Cadena SER (via SPORT), Barcelona are closely monitoring Rodri’s situation.
The Catalan club could move for the Manchester City midfielder if his proposed transfer to Real Madrid does not materialise and he becomes open to joining Camp Nou.
The report states that Barcelona consider Rodri one of the best midfielders in world football. The club also believe he is worth making a major financial effort for if the opportunity arises.
Deco and Hansi Flick initially believed Barcelona’s midfield was complete. However, Frenkie de Jong’s injury has forced the club to reconsider its plans before the transfer window closes.
Manchester City also remain determined to protect their position. The report claims the Premier League club are prepared to demand around €70 million, including add-ons.
And they could even keep Rodri until his contract expires if they do not receive an acceptable offer. Barcelona therefore continue watching developments closely.
Any move now depends on Rodri’s decision and whether Real Madrid can complete a deal with Manchester City during the remainder of the transfer window.
