Barcelona are already looking ahead to future transfer windows as Hansi Flick continues shaping his squad.
The Catalan club spent heavily during the summer and also pursued Julian Alvarez before Atletico Madrid blocked a potential move.
Barcelona remain interested in Alvarez, but Deco and Joan Laporta are also assessing other areas of Flick’s squad.
Midfield could require further attention, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Frenkie de Jong and Gavi’s respective futures.
That situation has now brought another experienced option into Barcelona’s plans. According to El Nacional, Barcelona are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz.
The 30-year-old could look for a new challenge at the end of the current season despite remaining comfortable in Paris.
Ruiz’s contract with PSG runs until 2028, meaning a transfer could become possible if the French champions agree to negotiate.
The Spain international is reportedly interested in returning to his homeland after spending several years outside La Liga.
Hansi Flick has approved the potential signing and believes Ruiz would suit Barcelona’s style of play.
The German coach also views him as someone capable of increasing competition within the midfield.
Ruiz could provide another option alongside Pedri and allow Barcelona to rotate their midfield more regularly.
His experience would also add another senior presence to a squad containing several younger players.
However, Barcelona would still need to reach an agreement with PSG before any transfer could progress.
Competition could also complicate their plans, with several major European clubs monitoring the midfielder.
Manchester United, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Liverpool are among the teams reportedly interested in Ruiz.
Barcelona therefore face significant competition if they decide to turn their interest into a formal move.
For now, Flick has given his approval, leaving Laporta and Deco to assess whether a deal can become realistic.
