Barcelona enjoyed success last season with a La Liga title and two more trophies. Hansi Flick has reasons to be pleased, but not everything looks secure for the future.
One position is already a growing concern. Robert Lewandowski, now 37, is nearing the end of his contract, which runs out after the 2025-26 campaign. But his scoring touch remains intact.
Lewandowski scored two goals in 48 minutes spread across three league games this season. But the years are catching up for sure. Flick and sporting director Deco are already weighing alternatives.
Behind the scenes, there is one name drawing attention. Reports from Spanish sources suggest Barcelona are now looking at Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy.
Since arriving in Germany last summer, the Guinea international has been unstoppable. Guirassy scored 43 goals and 10 assists in just 55 appearances.
This made him one of Europe’s most reliable strikers. He carried his impeccable form into this season too, with 4 goals in the Bundesliga and another 4 in the Club World Cup.
The report claims Dortmund could sell for around €100m (£86.73m). For a striker who turns 30 soon, that figure would test Barcelona’s resolve.
Now, Barcelona’s economic situation is unstable, and even removing Lewandowski’s salary would not cover the outlay.
A big-money departure may be required before talks can advance. Dani Olmo’s name has already surfaced as a possible sale to fund the project.
Apart from the Dortmund striker, the Blaugrana are considering moves for other strikers as well. They are also looking at options like Harry Kane, Julian Alvarez, and Erling Haaland.
Guirassy’s form makes him one of the top strikers available, and Barcelona are under pressure to plan for life after Lewandowski. The months ahead will show if they are ready to pay the price.
