Barcelona are making progress in their push to sign Nico Williams.
The 22-year-old winger from Athletic Club has become the club’s top priority for the left flank.
Talks are moving forward after he made it clear that he wants to join the Catalan side this summer.
Nico has impressed Barca with both his talent and attitude.
He recently sent his agent to Barcelona to restart contact.
More importantly, he signalled that he is ready to lower his salary to make the transfer possible.
The player had agreed to a much higher deal last year.
But after missing out on the move then, he now seems willing to make personal sacrifices.
According to Mundo Deportivo, these steps changed Barcelona’s view.
Club president Joan Laporta, who once suggested Nico had missed his chance, now sees the move differently.
Barca have responded quickly. They have moved Luis Diaz, another winger on their radar, down the list.
While the Colombian remains an option, his situation with Liverpool is more complicated.
Nico, on the other hand, has rejected better financial offers from Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
That loyalty has made an impact in Barcelona’s boardroom. Inside the club, the mood is positive.
Sources say things are going in the right direction, and the relationship between Nico’s camp and the club is solid.
But there is one issue left. Barcelona must be sure they can register him before paying his buyout clause. That figure stands at €58 million.
And with no room to negotiate with Athletic Club, the Catalans have no choice but to pay the full amount if they want to sign him.
There is still one key development that tipped the balance in Barcelona’s favour, something that gave the club confidence to push ahead despite the financial challenge.
That twist came directly from Nico Williams. It is a bold move that may finally get this Nico Williams to Barcelona deal over the line.
