Barcelona set deadline for Rodri transfer

Barcelona are working against the clock as they attempt to complete the transfer within their self-imposed deadline.

Barcelona are pushing to complete one of their biggest summer deals as preparations continue for the 2026-27 campaign.

The Catalan giants have moved ahead of Real Madrid in the race for Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer.

Real Madrid previously held talks over a move, but disagreements over the valuation and structure of the deal slowed their pursuit.

Barcelona then stepped up their efforts, with sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick playing key roles in convincing Rodri.

The Spain international has already given his approval to the move and agreed personal terms with the Catalan club.

However, Barcelona still need to reach an agreement with Manchester City before the transfer can be completed.

Their opening offer of €50 million was rejected, with City demanding around €70 million for the midfielder.

According to MARCA, Barcelona have now set a 48-hour deadline to try to complete Rodri’s transfer before he returns to Manchester City training.

Barcelona had planned to complete the deal before Friday, but negotiations have taken longer than originally expected.

The two clubs remain apart financially, although they believe they can resolve their differences.

Barcelona are confident Rodri will play for them during the 2026-27 campaign and believe they can complete the transfer this week.

However, club officials are no longer certain whether they can reach an agreement within the planned 48-hour timeframe.

The two sides are currently trying to bring their valuations closer together as they discuss a compromise.

Barcelona hope to complete the transfer for between €60 million and €65 million, including potential variables in the agreement.

Rodri is fully aware of the progress of negotiations and understands he may still need to return to Manchester.

The 30-year-old has one year remaining on his Manchester City contract and has already reached an agreement with Barcelona.

If negotiations advance sufficiently before Friday, there remains a possibility that Rodri will not need to rejoin City’s preparations.

Barcelona are therefore working against the clock as they attempt to complete the transfer within their self-imposed 48-hour deadline.
