Barcelona set sights on Julian Alvarez alternative from Bundesliga

Deco continues searching for another number nine for Flick’s squad.

Barcelona have started the 2026/27 campaign strongly under Hansi Flick after completing another ambitious summer transfer window.

The Catalan club won four of their six preseason matches before beginning their La Liga title defence against Elche.

Barcelona secured a dominant 5-0 victory, with Raphinha and Fermin Lopez both scoring twice during the opening league fixture.

Karim Adeyemi also marked his competitive debut with a goal following his €22 million move from Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, Barcelona strengthened several areas during the summer after returning to La Liga’s flexible 1:1 financial rule.

They signed Rodri from Manchester City for €76.5 million including add-ons and paid €80 million for Anthony Gordon.

Barcelona also brought in Joao Cancelo permanently, while Ferran Torres and Marc-Andre ter Stegen were among the departures.

However, Flick still wants another number nine before the transfer window closes, with Deco continuing to assess possible options.

Barcelona have shown interest in Julian Alvarez, but the club have also explored alternatives during their striker search.

According to BILD (via Mundo Deportivo), Barcelona recently asked Borussia Dortmund about Serhou Guirassy as they considered the Bundesliga striker as another option.

However, Guirassy’s salary demands quickly became a major obstacle for Barcelona during their assessment of a possible transfer.

The 30-year-old earns around €10 million annually, which Barcelona considered too high for their current wage structure.

Guirassy also has a release clause worth around €50 million and remains under contract with Dortmund until 2028.

He scored 22 goals and provided six assists across 46 appearances for Borussia Dortmund during the previous campaign.

However, Barcelona ultimately dismissed the possibility of signing Guirassy because of the financial demands surrounding his salary.

With eight days remaining in the transfer window, Deco continues searching for another number nine for Flick’s squad.
