Barcelona set sights on Manchester City star to replace Robert Lewandowski

Joan Laporta

Barcelona are slowly preparing for life without Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker is now 37 years old and in the final year of his deal.

As things stand, he will leave the club for free in the summer of 2026. Injuries have already limited him this season. He has yet to start a La Liga match after suffering a muscle problem in pre-season.

Still, Lewandowski showed he remains deadly. He came off the bench against Valencia to score twice in a 6-0 win.

That performance only added to his incredible record. Since arriving, he has delivered 103 goals and 20 assists in 150 games.

But despite his numbers, Barcelona know they must look ahead. The club needs a successor.

President Joan Laporta has one name in mind. According to El Nacional, he has been fixated on Erling Haaland since he returned to office in 2021.

At the time, the club’s financial crisis made the move impossible. Still, he has continued to dream about the transfer.

Haaland is under contract at Manchester City until 2034. Yet Laporta believes there is a real chance to bring him to Camp Nou.

The feeling is that if City fail to return to their peak under Pep Guardiola, he could push for a move. This season, he has already scored five goals in the Premier League.

That includes a brace in the Manchester derby. His overall record is astonishing. Erling Haaland has 150 goal contributions in 150 matches.

He has 129 goals and 21 assists, and he is close to reaching 100 Premier League strikes. Laporta is obsessed with signing him. For the president, there is no better replacement for Lewandowski.

However, not everyone at the club agrees. The coaching staff sees another option as more realistic. They admire Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

Laporta wants Haaland, while others push for Alvarez. Either way, the Catalan giants know they must act soon to secure the future of their attack.
