Real Madrid wanted him all summer.
Florentino Perez had hinted at a €150 million bid. S
panish media had been working themselves into a frenzy about an imminent move.
The Bernabeu faithful dared to dream about a lethal front three.
However, it was never going to happen.
And now, Bayern Munich have made that crystal clear.
Bayern Munich declare Michael Olise completely off limits
According to Marca, Bayern Munich have made their position on Olise entirely unambiguous, with Sport Bild’s Christian Falk confirming that the Bavarian club have communicated directly to the player that there is no chance of him leaving this summer.
“There is no chance the player will leave in this transfer window. Bayern has made that very clear to the player.”
The reason goes deeper than just a simple refusal.
Behind the public statements lies a private agreement between Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez.
The two men share an extremely close relationship.
They dined together around the Champions League quarter-finals and spoke privately about Olise specifically.
With Hainer delivering an unequivocal message and Perez giving his word in return.
The agreement is straightforward.
Neither club will attempt to sign a player from the other without first informing the respective club of their interest.
And in Olise’s case, the signal from Munich could not have been clearer.
The complicating factor, one that could make this situation more volatile beyond this window, is what’s happening inside Olise’s own camp.
Sources close to the player suggest he is aware that multiple clubs are tracking him closely.
People close to him have apparently suggested he knows the Bundesliga title is achievable, but that the Champions League may be more difficult.
That seed of doubt is what Bayern Munich are working to eradicate.
They are reportedly prepared to nearly double Olise’s wages as part of a new long-term contract, with a deal through to 2031 the aim.
His current contract runs until 2029.
And his World Cup campaign for France has only enhanced an already extraordinary reputation.
This summer, at least, he stays in Munich.
