After losing Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard, Thomas Frank, many have tipped Brentford to struggle this season.

Not to mention the ongoing saga with Yoane Wissa.

Several people have predicted this to be the club’s fifth and final season in the English Premier League.

With a 3-1 defeat and poor performance at Nottingham Forest on opening weekend, it already looked to be heading that way.

However, they then pulled off an impressive 1-0 win at home to Aston Villa, limiting their visitors to very little during the game.

Despite the aforementioned departures, the arrivals of Caoiminhin Kelleher and Dango Ouattara have caused optimism.

It appears they have tried to build on that too.

As per David Ornstein, Brentford have had a club record bid of £45m for Borussia Dortmund forward Max Beier turned down.

He also states that they are not expected to improve their offer – so that is quite possibly the end of that.

The 22-year old scored eight goals and provided five assists in just under 18 90’s last season in the Bundesliga.

Previously, he had scored 16 league goals in around 27 90’s for Hoffenheim, before moving to Dortmund.

Beier is a player capable of playing on either flank and in the middle, either as the lone striker or in a two.

He has four caps for the German senior team, and featured during their Euros campaign on home soil.

This would have been a very exciting, ambitious signing from Brentford. A shame for them that it now looks unlikely.
