Chelsea agree deal for first summer signing

Chelsea have secured their first signing of the summer.

Breaking News - Chelsea

Chelsea are moving quickly in the transfer market as Xabi Alonso prepares for his first full season in charge.

The Blues are eager to strengthen key areas of the squad after identifying several positions that require reinforcement. Alonso has already started shaping the squad in his image.

The Spaniard enjoyed huge success with a three-man defence at Bayer Leverkusen, and recent transfer activity suggests he could implement a similar system at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, Chelsea have prioritised the signing of a specialist wing-back capable of thriving in that role after Marc Cucurella joined Real Madrid earlier this month.

Inter Milan had appeared to be leading the race for one of Serie A’s most promising young defenders.

However, Chelsea have now made their move and look set to secure the player’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Atalanta defender Marco Palestra.

Romano also revealed that Chelsea successfully hijacked Inter’s move for the Italian defender.

Palestra enjoyed a breakthrough campaign on loan at Cagliari last season. The 22-year-old made 37 league appearances, contributed five goal involvements and won the Serie A Best Defender award.

The defender also made his senior debut for Italy during the World Cup play-offs earlier this year.

His arrival could have a significant impact on Chelsea’s defensive structure.

The move could also create uncertainty around Malo Gusto’s future, with Manchester City already linked with the Frenchman. For now, Chelsea have secured their first signing of the summer.
