Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign highly-rated FC Dallas winger Benji Flowers as they continue investing in young talent from across the world.
The 15-year-old has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in American youth soccer.
Flowers joined the FC Dallas Academy at the age of 10 and has since made rapid progress through the club’s system.
Moreover, he made his MLS NEXT Pro debut for North Texas SC at just 14 years, 11 months and seven days old. That appearance made him the second-youngest player in the team’s history.
Flowers has also represented the United States at Under-15 level, scoring twice in three appearances. Meanwhile, his development earned him selection for the MLS NEXT All-Star Game.
According to The Athletic, Chelsea have agreed to sign Flowers from FC Dallas when he turns 18. The teenager recently travelled to London to complete Chelsea’s part of the agreement.
Chelsea believe they are securing one of the best young talents in American youth soccer.
However, Flowers will continue his development in the United States before eventually moving to Stamford Bridge.
The agreement will initially earn FC Dallas around £2.25M. However, performance-related add-ons could significantly increase the overall value of the transfer.
Furthermore, some of those bonuses can activate before Flowers joins Chelsea. His appearances for FC Dallas and achievements at youth international level could trigger additional payments.
Dallas will also retain a sell-on clause as part of the agreement, allowing the MLS club to benefit financially from any future transfer.
Meanwhile, FC Dallas have signed Flowers to a first-team contract through 2031 as he continues his development before the eventual move.
