Neither Chelsea and Everton were on the winning side yesterday.

Chelsea came back from 1-0 down against Brentford to lead the game 2-1, only to concede an injury time equaliser from Fábio Carvalho.

Meanwhile, Everton were involved in a drab 0-0 draw at home to Goodison Park.

It has been a mixed start for Chelsea, with two wins and two draws so far.

For Everton, they have had an equally mixed start to the season.

They followed up a 1-0 defeat to Leeds United with two wins, before yesterday’s goalless draw.

Chelsea’ midfield has had some good moments, with Enzo Fernandes netting two goals in the first three games.

Everton’s Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish have enjoyed great starts to life on Merseyside.

Despite this, both clubs were still looking to further bolster their midfield in the summer.

Chelsea and Everton reportedly made late bid for Barcelona midfielder

According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea and Everton made late bids for Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal.

Bernal, 18, made his first team debut for Barcelona in August 2024 as the Catalan side beat Valencia 2-1.

Just ten days later, he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Rayo Vallecano.

Such is the talent that the club see in Bernal, that they adjusted his contract to include a clause of €500 million with his deal expiring next summer and an option of three more years.

Bernal has now returned to full fitness and has so far made three La Liga appearances for Barcelona this season.

Both Chelsea and Everton reportedly made offers to sign Bernal on a six month loan deal, but the youngster is now set to stay with the Spanish giants.

However, it remains to be seen how long he will remain at the club for past this season.
