Chelsea eye €60m move for Real Madrid midfielder

Whether Real Madrid really let him go remains to be seen. But if they do, Chelsea will be ready to make a move.

Enzo Maresca

Chelsea have spent the last few years building a strong midfield. Players like Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are now key to Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The club has also invested in Romeo Lavia, Andrey Santos, and Dario Essugo.

On paper, the Blues look well covered in that part of the pitch. But reality has been different this season. Lavia has suffered repeated injuries.

Essugo’s growth has also stalled after picking up a thigh problem that rules him out until December. Because of that, Maresca is looking to sign another midfielder.

The Chelsea boss wants more depth in midfield. At times, he feels his side has lacked midfield depth especially with such a long season to endure.

That is why Chelsea are tracking a player from Real Madrid. The Los Blancos may be open to selling him for around €60m.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea want to sign Eduardo Camavinga. The 22-year-old is still highly rated, but Real Madrid could consider a big-money sale.

The French international has already made close to 180 appearances for Madrid since 2021. But this season, he has struggled with injuries.

In his absence, teammates like Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have impressed. Arda Guler has also broken through, while Jude Bellingham remains a mainstay.

All of this has raised doubts about his long-term role at his club. The Frenchman can also provide cover at left-back, which adds to his value.

But signing him will not be easy for Chelsea. When Caicedo and Fernandez are fit, they are Maresca’s trusted pair. Lavia and Santos are next in line.

Adding Camavinga would mean five players competing for only two spots. That could force one of the younger players to leave. Even then, Chelsea see Camavinga as an ideal man for their project.

Whether Real Madrid really let him go remains to be seen. But if they do, Chelsea will be ready to make a move.
