Chelsea are planning attacking changes this summer after another campaign raised questions over their firepower.
The Blues already have several forwards in the squad, but they are still assessing the market for another reliable goal threat.
Barcelona also face an important decision in attack. Robert Lewandowski has left the club to join Chicago Fire. So, the Catalan club are already looking at possible successors.
Julian Alvarez remains their main target, but Atletico Madrid’s stance makes that deal difficult. So, both clubs are now looking at other options.
According to CaughtOffside, AS Monaco forward Folarin Balogun has now emerged as a target for Chelsea and Barcelona after his impressive World Cup performances with the United States.
Balogun has scored twice in two matches at the tournament so far. His World Cup form has added more attention to an already strong campaign at Monaco.
He scored 19 goals in 43 appearances for the French side. Chelsea are closely monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation.
The Blues view him as an interesting option for their attack, especially as Xabi Alonso prepares to shape the squad for the new season.
Barcelona are also keeping Balogun on their list. The Spanish giants still prefer Alvarez, but Monaco’s asking price makes Balogun a far more affordable alternative.
Monaco are demanding between €50 million and €55 million for the former Arsenal striker. The French club believe that fee is realistic after his rise in Ligue 1 and at international level.
Balogun has scored 31 goals since joining Monaco from Arsenal in 2023. The Ligue 1 side now believe a big sale is possible, especially with several Premier League clubs showing interest.
Sunderland, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Everton and Crystal Palace are all in the mix. That makes Chelsea’s task more complicated if they decide to move beyond monitoring.
