Chelsea underwent a major squad overhaul during the summer following the appointment of Xabi Alonso as their new manager.
The Blues added several new faces, including Emiliano Martinez, Maxence Lacroix, Morgan Rogers, Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck.
However, Chelsea have struggled to find consistency despite beginning their campaign with victories against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Defeats against Arsenal and Brentford followed, while Alonso’s side also dropped points during a 2-2 draw against Hull City.
Chelsea are already planning for the future, with the club firmly in the market for another midfielder during 2027.
The Blues wanted to sign Martin Zubimendi from Arsenal but the Spaniard has already decided which club he wants to join next.
Their search has taken them to Serie A, where one midfielder has enjoyed an impressive rise under Cesc Fabregas at Como.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are interested in signing Como midfielder Lucas Da Cunha and remain particularly attentive to his development.
Chelsea’s interest also predates Da Cunha’s recent breakthrough with France, where Zinedine Zidane handed him his senior international opportunity.
The 25-year-old initially joined Como as a winger or attacking midfielder before Fabregas identified his potential in a deeper position.
That decision has transformed Da Cunha’s career, with the Frenchman flourishing in midfield and eventually becoming captain at Como.
However, Chelsea are not alone in monitoring his situation after his performances attracted significant attention from Premier League clubs.
Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Brighton previously made contact regarding Da Cunha before his international breakthrough.
Liverpool, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are also monitoring his situation, while Atalanta, Napoli and Roma have shown interest from Serie A.
Despite that attention, Da Cunha decided to remain with Como and subsequently signed a new five-year contract with the Italian club.
Therefore, Como are under no immediate pressure to sell, while his rapid development and France recognition could strengthen their negotiating position.
It also remains uncertain whether Da Cunha would consider leaving Como after committing his future to the club with that long-term contract.
