Chelsea ready to pay €50m for defender

Chelsea are eager to continue the negotiations.

Liam Rosenior

Chelsea are looking to sign a defender. The Blues are looking to reshape their squad after parting ways with Enzo Maresca and appointing Liam Rosenior.

There were rumours that the Blues were in for Marc Guehi. However, Manchester City did not let those rumours spread long, as they pressed ahead and signed the England international.

That is why all clubs interested in Guehi are now looking for an alternative. And, the Blues have already found the ideal defender they might want to sign this January.

Also, Chelsea have agreed on personal terms with the player. Now, only the club-to-club agreement remains, and the Blues are also pushing for that.

However, there is a gap in the valuation of both clubs. According to RMC Sport, Chelsea are ready to pay €50 million for Jeremy Jacquet of Rennes.

But the French club is looking for a fee of around €70 million. Jacquet wants to join Chelsea and has given the green light for this move.

Now, the defender has a contract with Rennes until 2029. So, the French club already hold a strong position during the negotiation process.

Jeremy Jacquet has been one of the standout players for the French side. Even at the age of 20, the French star has made 17 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.

Chelsea are eager to continue the negotiations, as Liam Rosenior wants to add Jeremy Jacquet to his squad to challenge for the Champions League spot next season.
