Chelsea have recovered from a difficult September to climb into the Premier League’s top four.
Xabi Alonso’s side suffered defeats against Arsenal and Brentford during an inconsistent opening period. However, their results have improved considerably during October.
Chelsea thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 before securing a 2-0 victory away at Everton. That improvement follows another major summer rebuild at Stamford Bridge.
Morgan Rogers arrived from Aston Villa for a club-record £117M. Chelsea also strengthened their defence with Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra and Pep Chavarria.
Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez joined Manchester City for £125M during an extensive summer clear-out. Chelsea are already monitoring potential additions ahead of future transfer windows.
According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea have joined the race to sign Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari.
The 23-year-old has become an important figure under Fabian Hurzeler this season. He has registered two assists across Brighton’s opening six matches.
Chelsea sporting director Paul Winstanley also knows Ayari particularly well.
Winstanley previously worked as Brighton’s head of scouting and played a significant role in identifying the Swedish midfielder.
Chelsea are now monitoring his situation as uncertainty grows around his future at Brighton.
Ayari’s current contract expires at the end of this season. Brighton hold an option to extend that agreement for another 12 months.
The club have not yet activated the clause, although Ayari’s camp expects them to do so.
Brighton have discussed a new contract with Ayari since before the summer. However, those negotiations have encountered difficulties.
Chelsea will also face significant competition should they pursue a deal. Galatasaray remain interested after monitoring Ayari during the summer transfer window.
Several Premier League clubs are also watching his situation, while Saudi Pro League sides have made enquiries. Brighton will want to retain a midfielder who has become central to Hurzeler’s plans.
However, the unresolved contract negotiations have created an opportunity for Chelsea and other interested clubs to monitor developments closely.
