Chelsea set to battle Liverpool and Manchester City for Inter Milan star

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City must decide whether to advance their interest and meet Inter’s demands.

Chelsea have endured an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign following another significant summer overhaul.

Xabi Alonso’s side recorded two wins, one draw and two defeats across their opening five league fixtures.

The Blues made several additions during the summer, with Morgan Rogers arriving from Aston Villa for £117 million.

However, defensive problems have persisted during the opening weeks, with Chelsea conceding at least twice in each Premier League match.

Alonso has moved towards using a back-three system, leaving Chelsea considering further additions to strengthen their defensive options.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea retain an interest in Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Blues explored a potential move during the summer and continue to admire the 27-year-old Italy international.

Chelsea believe Bastoni’s experience in a back three, technical ability and passing range could suit Alonso’s system.

Liverpool are also monitoring Bastoni and have already completed significant work on a possible move as they plan their future defence.

The Reds continue to consider the Inter star among their defensive targets ahead of 2027.

Manchester City retain an interest as well, with their position potentially becoming more significant if Ruben Dias leaves the Etihad Stadium.

Barcelona provide additional competition after previously pushing to sign Bastoni during the summer transfer window.

That proposed move failed to materialise after Inter maintained a valuation of close to £70 million for their defender.

Bastoni remains open to moving to England despite previously prioritising a possible switch to Barcelona.

Inter face no immediate pressure to sell and continue to value one of their most important players at around £70 million.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City must therefore decide whether to advance their interest and meet Inter’s demands.
