Chelsea are continuing to reshape their squad ahead of the new season under Xabi Alonso.
The Blues have already welcomed several new arrivals, while multiple departures have helped reduce the size of the first-team squad.
The club remain focused on balancing the squad after another busy transfer window. Several players have already left Stamford Bridge, and more exits are expected before the market closes.
Chelsea’s pre-season preparations are also well underway. Alonso has started implementing his ideas as the Blues continue their tour before opening the Premier League campaign later this month.
Another departure now appears to be moving closer as Chelsea continue discussions with one of Europe’s top clubs.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Napoli over the loan of Benoit Badiashile, with an option to make the move permanent.
The report states that negotiations have progressed in recent days, placing Napoli in a strong position to complete the deal.
Badiashile has also already spoken with Napoli head coach Massimiliano Allegri about the proposed move.
The 25-year-old featured in only eight Premier League matches for Chelsea last season. A move to Serie A could now provide him with the opportunity for more regular football.
However, the transfer has not been finalised. Juventus remain interested in signing Badiashile and have not abandoned their pursuit despite Napoli’s progress.
Napoli currently appear to hold the advantage in the race. Even so, Juventus are still hoping to beat their Serie A rivals to the French defender’s signature before Napoli reach an agreement.
While Napoli have moved closer to Chelsea in negotiations, the Blues have not signed any agreement.
The coming days will therefore determine whether Badiashile joins the former Italian champions or whether Juventus can still change the outcome of the transfer race.
