Chelsea are approaching the end of another busy transfer window after making significant changes to Xabi Alonso’s squad.
The Blues have strengthened heavily, with Morgan Rogers arriving from Aston Villa in a club-record £120 million deal.
Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda and Emiliano Martinez have also joined during Chelsea’s extensive summer recruitment.
Several players have moved in the opposite direction, including Nicolas Jackson, Marc Cucurella, David Datro Fofana and Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea could still oversee further movement before the deadline, with Enzo Fernandez linked with a potential £120 million-plus move to Manchester City.
However, one member of Alonso’s squad has decided against leaving Stamford Bridge despite interest from another major European club.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto has rejected the opportunity to join Atletico Madrid on loan.
Atletico contacted Chelsea to enquire about the conditions required to take the France international away from Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish club were searching for another right-back after Nahuel Molina moved towards joining AS Roma.
However, Gusto had no intention of leaving Chelsea on loan and is expected to remain with the Blues this season.
The 23-year-old has already started all three of Chelsea’s competitive matches during the new campaign.
Alonso has also used Gusto in a more advanced and central role than his usual right-back position.
Manchester City had previously shown interest in the former Lyon academy graduate, although that possibility did not develop further.
Chelsea have started their Premier League campaign with victories over Fulham and Brighton.
They have also recorded a 2-0 EFL Cup win during their unbeaten competitive start under Alonso.
Gusto now looks set to continue at Stamford Bridge after turning down Atletico’s approach and choosing to remain part of Chelsea’s squad.
