It’s been a season of progress for Chelsea following a couple of seasons in transition.
After 12th and 6th place Premier League finishes, there was real pressure on Enzo Maresca to deliver Champions League football in his first full season in Premier League management.
And the Italian delivered following a final day win at fellow chasers Nottingham Forest.
As the squad recuperates, there will no doubt be rumours swirling around incomings this summer.
No club has spent more than Chelsea in the last 3 years, with over €1 billion spent on new players in that time.
Despite this outlay, there are still improvements to be made defensively.
Could the West Londoners be about to head to Serie A for their latest transfer venture?
According to Orazio Accomando, Chelsea are interested in signing Spanish defender Mario Gila from Lazio this summer.
It’s reported the Blues are ready to offer €35m for the defender.
A product of the Real Madrid youth academy, Gila moved to Lazio in 2022 and has been a regular fixture for the Italian side this season.
Comfortable at driving into midfield and breaking lines, Gila will be in high demand this summer, with Wolves and Brighton also interested.
Chelsea will be looking to push on next season to compete on all fronts.
With Fofana’s injury record and question marks on the defence, Enzo Maresca will be keen to reinforce, and Mario Gila could be an exceptional addition
Chelsea will no doubt keeping their options open at centre back ahead of what promises to be another busy summer for the Blues.
