Everton set to sign former Manchester City in shock move

Everton consider bringing the former Manchester City star to Merseyside before the window closes.

Everton have remained active in the transfer market as David Moyes attempts to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Toffees endured an inconsistent 2025-26 campaign, eventually finishing 13th with 49 points.

Their late-season struggles proved particularly damaging after they failed to win any of their final seven league matches.

Moyes has responded by reshaping his squad this summer. Brennan Johnson, Christian Norgaard, Hayden Hackney, Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl have already arrived.

However, Everton are still looking for defensive reinforcements. Right-back has emerged as an area they could address before the transfer window closes.

According to The Sun, Everton are interested in signing former Manchester City defender Kyle Walker from Burnley, with Moyes considering a move for the experienced right-back.

Walker joined Burnley from Manchester City for £5 million last summer and signed a two-year contract.

He subsequently made 35 Premier League starts but could not prevent Burnley from suffering relegation.

The 36-year-old enjoyed enormous success during his Manchester City career before leaving the Etihad Stadium.

His experience at the highest level could now make him an attractive short-term option for Everton. A move would also represent the latest chapter in Everton’s long-standing interest.

Walker nearly joined the club as a teenager, while another potential switch fell through before he completed his Burnley transfer.

The report states that Everton could secure Walker for a nominal fee if they decide to proceed with the deal.

Burnley’s relegation has opened the possibility of the former England international making an immediate Premier League return.

Everton have already made significant changes to Moyes’ squad this summer, but their recruitment is not finished.

Walker could now become another experienced addition as Everton consider bringing the former Manchester City star to Merseyside before the window closes.
