Federico Chiesa’s time at Liverpool is drawing to a close.
That much has been clear for months.
But the picture around his exit is now sharper than ever, with clubs in Italy already making their interest known and the club itself prepared to listen to offers.
Federico Chiesa set to leave Liverpool as Napoli and Como circle in Serie A return
According to CaughtOffside, sources with a close understanding of the situation have confirmed that Liverpool are open to letting Chiesa go this summer, with the Italian winger keen on a return to Serie A and the club prepared to facilitate a departure.
Liverpool’s asking price is around €20 million.
Whether interested clubs will meet that figure remains to be seen.
The source added that Napoli and Como are keeping a close eye on the situation.
But may first explore a loan with an obligation before committing to a permanent deal at Liverpool’s asking price.
Liverpool, for their part, would prefer a permanent sale.
Negotiations haven’t formally begun yet, but the direction is clear enough.
Anfield never saw the best of him.
Injuries disrupted his debut season.
His second never quite took off either.
And now, with Andoni Iraola inheriting a squad in the middle of major transition, the Italian is not part of the plans.
The timing is particularly interesting given what Chiesa did publicly in June, making clear in an interview that he had to “look elsewhere”, and even advising teammate Curtis Jones to consider his own exit.
Both players are now on their way.
The wider context at Liverpool makes this one exit of several happening simultaneously.
Mohamed Salah has gone.
Andy Robertson too.
Ibrahima Konate has left for Real Madrid.
And Arne Slot has been replaced by Andoni Iraola.
This is a club being rebuilt from the ground up.
Chiesa’s departure won’t be the most painful of the summer.
But it will be the end of a chapter that never really got started.
