Former Chelsea star officially signs for Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially confirmed the signing of the former Chelsea forward.

Chelsea underwent a major squad overhaul during the summer, with 39 players leaving through permanent transfers and loan moves.

The Blues generated £519M from sales and loan fees while spending £349M on 11 additions under Xabi Alonso.

Enzo Fernandez completed the biggest departure by joining Manchester City for £125M. Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella were also among the high-profile exits.

Chelsea have nevertheless made a strong start to the 2026/27 season following those extensive changes.

Alonso’s side beat Fulham and Brighton in their opening Premier League matches. They also defeated Luton Town in the EFL Cup before losing 2–1 to Arsenal.

Away from Stamford Bridge, another player with previous Chelsea connections has now completed a move in English football.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially confirmed the signing of former Chelsea forward Bertrand Traore on a one-year contract.

The 31-year-old joins Wolves after leaving Sunderland following the end of his contract. He made 12 Premier League appearances for Sunderland last season.

Traore previously joined Chelsea as an 18-year-old and later progressed into the first team.

He made 16 senior appearances for the Blues and scored four goals. His time at Chelsea also included Premier League and Champions League football.

Traore later had spells with Ajax, Lyon, Aston Villa, Istanbul Basaksehir and Villarreal before eventually joining Sunderland.

The Burkina Faso international now strengthens Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto’s attacking options.

Traore had already visited Wolves’ Compton training base before the club announced his arrival.

He joins a Wolves side sitting ninth in the Championship after collecting two wins and two draws from their opening five matches.

The club will now give Traore time to regain full fitness and adapt to Peixoto’s tactical demands before introducing him to competitive action.
