Real Madrid have wasted little time reshaping their squad following a disappointing 2025-26 campaign.
Los Blancos finished behind Barcelona in La Liga and ended another season without silverware.
Their Champions League journey also ended in painful fashion following elimination against Bayern Munich.
The difficult campaign triggered major changes both on and off the pitch.
Jose Mourinho returned to the Santiago Bernabeu and immediately oversaw a significant rebuild ahead of the new season.
Real Madrid also moved on from long-serving defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba during the summer window.
The club financed much of that rebuild through academy sales worth more than €130 million.
That included the €60 million departure of Nico Paz to Como.
Meanwhile, Denzel Dumfries arrived from Inter Milan after Real Madrid activated his €20 million release clause.
Marc Cucurella also completed a move from Chelsea worth £51.8 million.
The club strengthened further by signing Ibrahima Konate and Bernardo Silva on free transfers.
Real Madrid also secured the future of Aurelien Tchouameni by extending his contract until 2031.
Despite those additions, links with experienced players continue to emerge around the Spanish giants.
One familiar face has now publicly admitted he would welcome a return to the club.
According to El Chiringuito TV, Fabinho opened the door to a return to Real Madrid following Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup. Fabinho said:
“Return to Real Madrid? Who wouldn’t like that.”
The Brazilian previously spent the 2012-13 season at Real Madrid on loan from Rio Ave.
Although he made only one first-team appearance, that match came under Mourinho’s management.
Fabinho replaced Fabio Coentrao during a 6-2 victory over Malaga and immediately registered an assist for Angel Di Maria.
His brief spell in Madrid eventually led to a move to Monaco and later a highly successful period at Liverpool.
The midfielder made 219 appearances for the Reds and won every major trophy available under Jurgen Klopp.
Fabinho lifted the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during his five years at Anfield.
He later joined Al-Ittihad in a £40 million move in 2023 and enjoyed another successful chapter in Saudi Arabia.
The midfielder helped the club win consecutive Saudi Pro League titles and also lifted the King’s Cup.
His contract expired at the end of June and he now finds himself available as a free agent.
That situation, combined with his history under Mourinho, could make his latest comments particularly interesting from Real Madrid’s perspective.
