PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been one of the most talked about players during this transfer window.
With the 26-year old only having one year remaining on his contract in Paris, he has been heavily linked with a move away.
To make things even more untenable for the shot stopper, PSG have signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Luis Enrique had left Donnarumma out of the squad for the Super Cup final against Spurs tomorrow night.
Well, the Italian has now broken his silence on his future.
In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Donnarumma said:
“To the special Paris fans, From the first day I arrived, I gave everything – on and off the pitch – to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain.
Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success.
I am disappointed and disheartened.
I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done.
If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it.
I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home.
To my teammates – my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers.
Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour.
Thank you, Paris.”
It will be very interesting to see who Donnarumma is referring to when he says “someone”.
Instantly you may think he is referring to Enrique.
But he could also be talking about sporting director Luis Campos.
Either way – if his future at PSG didn’t seem over already, it absolutely does now.
It will be absolutely fascinating to see where he goes to next.
He has today been linked with a move to Manchester City, but he has also been linked to rivals Manchester United.
A penny for James Trafford’s thoughts if he does sign for City.
