After a seriously humbling Champions League final, and disappointing Club World Cup, there has been plenty of soul searching at Inter Milan this summer.
The club are embarking on a new era under club legend Cristian Chivu, after Simone Inzaghi left for Saudi Arabia.
Despite this, there has not been too much movement in the transfer market so far.
Luis Henrique joined from Marseille, and Ange-Yoan Bonny from Parma.
Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic was probably the most high profile departure.
In the Champions League final, it was clear that Inter’s lack of mobility and athleticism was an issue.
Well, it looks as if they are trying to fix that.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Inter have made direct contact with AS Roma to ask for conditions of a deal for Manu Kone.
He states that the two clubs are in talk regarding valuation – with Kone seen as a key player under Gian Piero Gasperini.
The Frenchman had an impressive debut season at Roma, playing over 2500 minutes in the league.
He was rewarded with a France national team debut in the autumn, and has now reached eight caps.
His intensity would be much needed in an ageing Inter midfield.
Having Kone, Barella and Calhanoglu feels like a very balanced and well rounded trio.
However, Gasperini will be seeing him as key to his Roma side, as was mentioned above.
From his time at Atalanta, we know the 67-year old finds duel winning very important all over the pitch.
Furthermore, similarly to Inter, Roma otherwise lack mobility in midfield, making Kone very important.
