Real Madrid are preparing for another major rebuild after a disappointing season at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Los Blancos failed to win a trophy this year and tensions behind the scenes continued growing during the final months of the campaign.
Alvaro Arbeloa struggled badly after replacing Xabi Alonso in January and now looks set to leave the club. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have already started planning for a new era.
The Spanish giants want an experienced manager capable of restoring stability and challenging for major trophies immediately next season.
Transfer News Live already revealed that Jose Mourinho has verbally agreed to a two-year deal to become Real Madrid manager again.
Spanish outlets claim that the agreement should become official after the final day of the season on May 24.
They also suggest Real Madrid may delay the announcement until the club’s election process ends on May 23.
Now, as per Defensa Central, Jose Mourinho already identified Manchester City midfielder Rodri as his first major transfer target.
The Spain international’s contract expires next year, and negotiations over a new deal reportedly stalled in recent months.
Rodri also fuelled speculation earlier this year after admitting no player could reject Real Madrid.
The midfielder struggled with injuries this season but still remains one of the most respected players in European football. Meanwhile, uncertainty also surrounds Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City.
Reports now claim Enzo Maresca remains the favourite to replace Guardiola if he leaves Manchester City this summer.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013. During that period, he won La Liga and the Copa del Rey.
Now, the Portuguese appears close to returning to Madrid once again, with Rodri reportedly becoming his first major transfer target.
