Julian Alvarez continues to shine for both club and country. The Argentine played a key role for Atletico Madrid last season and remains one of the most sought-after attackers in European football.
He is also helping Argentina defend their World Cup crown in North America, with the reigning champions already securing their place in the knockout stages.
However, speculation around his future refuses to disappear. Several clubs have monitored Alvarez in recent months.
Real Madrid have shown strong interest, while Barcelona have also explored the possibility of bringing the striker to Camp Nou. Atletico Madrid, though, have remained firm.
The Spanish club rejected a reported €150 million offer from Real Madrid earlier this month and made it clear that they do not want to lose one of their most important players.
Despite that stance, fresh developments have now emerged. According to reports, Alvarez and his agent Fernando Hidalgo recently held discussions with Barcelona sporting director Deco.
The talks reportedly focused on a potential future move to the Catalan giants. That immediately increased speculation surrounding the player’s future.
Alvarez remains under contract at Atletico Madrid until 2030, which leaves the club in a strong position.
However, reports suggested that the forward could publicly clarify his intentions following Argentina’s World Cup clash with Austria. He has now done exactly that.
After Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria, Julian Alvarez delivered a statement that will intensify transfer talk across Europe. Speaking to reporters, the Argentina international said:
“I don’t want to hide or act like I don’t want to be clear. I try to be honest. I spoke to Atlético people and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave. I want to fulfill my dream”
Barcelona reportedly view Alvarez as a priority target, although any deal would likely require lengthy negotiations.
Atletico Madrid have already shown they are unwilling to entertain offers easily, particularly after rejecting a huge bid from one of their biggest rivals.
For now, Alvarez remains focused on Argentina’s World Cup campaign. However, his latest remarks have placed even more attention on his future.
