Julian Alvarez has become the subject of major transfer speculation after a strong individual campaign with Atletico Madrid.
The Argentine scored eight La Liga goals and added another ten in the Champions League during the 2025-26 season.
However, Atletico failed to win silverware, while Alvarez later helped Argentina reach the 2026 World Cup final.
He scored during their extra-time quarter-final victory over Switzerland before Argentina eventually lost 1-0 to Spain.
During the tournament, Alvarez publicly indicated that a transfer could be the best outcome for everyone involved.
That admission intensified speculation over his future, with Barcelona long viewing him as a major attacking target.
The Catalan club want to strengthen their frontline, although Atletico have strongly resisted selling to a domestic rival.
Arsenal have also entered the race after Atletico accepted a £103 million base offer from the Premier League champions.
However, the situation remains complicated because Alvarez has continued pushing towards one specific destination.
According to MARCA, Julian Alvarez only wants to leave Atletico Madrid for Barcelona and is not considering Arsenal or another club.
The 26-year-old informed Atletico officials in May that continuing his career at Barcelona represented his main ambition.
Despite Atletico closing the door on a move to Catalonia, Alvarez has not changed his position over the summer.
His stance now leaves only two realistic outcomes regarding his immediate future before the transfer window closes.
Alvarez either completes his desired move to Barcelona or remains at Atletico Madrid, where his contract runs until 2030.
That position creates a major obstacle for Arsenal despite Atletico accepting their substantial offer for the Argentina international.
Barcelona, meanwhile, still face the challenge of convincing Atletico to sanction a transfer to a direct La Liga rival.
For now, the forward has made his preference clear, leaving Atletico with a difficult decision over his next move.
