Kevin De Bruyne set to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami

Six Premier League titles.

A Champions League.

An injury-hit season in Naples.

However, Kevin De Bruyne is one of the greatest midfielders European football has ever produced.

And he’s heading to Florida.

Kevin De Bruyne set to join Lionel Messi at Inter Miami in MLS move that brings two of the sport’s greatest players together

According to Mundo Deportivo, De Bruyne is closing in on a move to Inter Miami, with the MLS club having held his discovery rights and worked throughout the summer to bring the Belgian to South Florida alongside Lionel Messi.

The deal that had seemed complicated for so long has finally found its shape.

It has taken creativity.

Inter Miami already carry three designated players – Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Casemiro.

Which left little room for a fourth superstar salary.

But the club have worked around those constraints to make this happen.

De Bruyne himself had made clear he was “willing to listen to any project.”

The Miami lifestyle appealed to his family, which has always been central to any decision he makes.

The sporting project, with Messi still at his absolute best, gave him a compelling reason to choose Florida over Saudi Arabia or another European adventure.

Former Manchester City and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero said it best.

“If it’s Inter Miami, I think he will pair up very nicely with Leo.”

Very nicely.

That is almost certainly the understatement of the summer.

De Bruyne and Messi, two players who have spent the past decade exchanging awards, admiring each other’s brilliance from afar and operating as the defining creative forces of their respective generations.

Sharing a pitch in the same club colours.

The Premier League lost one of its all-time greats.

However, the MLS gains something extraordinary.
